Since getting pregnant, I have enjoyed the many pregnancy and labor stories that have been shared with me. I love it when people can share intimate details about the crazy things that happened to them during their pregnancy. But, I can't say that I have enjoyed ALL the stories...sometimes I want to plug my ears and say T.M.I! Those who have had great labors and pregnancies seem less likely to share their stories, and will often say 'everyone is different, you have nothing to worry about'. While those who had horrible labors are quick to tell me their stories. They must not know that I am one of the most paranoid humans on this earth.
The other night our home teacher asked me how my pregnancy has been thus far. I said, 'perfect, zero complications and I surprised with how good I have felt'. His response? 'My wife had wonderful pregnancies too, but had TERRIBLE labors'. Um...thanks buddy...thanks. So....based on these labor nightmare stories, here are some things that I fear may happen to me.
- I will have a 10 lb baby and be completely torn in half, requiring major stitches and sitting on an inflaitable donut for 6 weeks.
- I will be in labor for 38 hours until I finally give in and opt for a c-section because my child refuses to exit.
- I will have to have an emergency c-section because my baby is breached, with her head is stuck in my ribs. When they eventually get her out, her head is misshapen and she needs to wear a helmet to shape her head back to normal.
- As the doctor is trying to pull the baby out, my child will turn, causing her to breach and the doctor needs to go deeper inside to turn my baby around, all while I am conscious.
- My child's blood sugar levels will be a 2 and she will be rushed to the NICU.
- Mark will pass out and be of no help to me during labor.
- My water will break while I am at work.
- My child will bruise her face on my pelvis, causing her face to swell and be unrecognizable for the first few weeks.
- I will be pushing and pass out.
- I will poop on the doctor (seriously I would rather pass out.)
- I will throw up on the nurse. (I picture the exorcism)
- The epidural will not work and I will have to go all natural
- The epidural will only work on half of my body and I will feel half nothing, half burning hell fire.
- My child will have the cord around her neck, which will cause me to panic.
So, as you can see...I've heard a few stories that are not so lovely. But as my doctor says, 'there is no way you can plan for anything. It is not up to you, it is up to your body and the baby...be open minded.'
Great!
