Half way to One
Mr. Jake-a-roo is now 6 months old! he is...well...amazing. I love this boy so much! He is so much fun. He does have the loudest scream on the planet, but we love him anyways. He is now in the 27th percentile for weight, so we are putting on the pounds. Normal, and perfect head and 65th percentile for height. Tall and slender (not like the rest of us.)
He is now slowly moving on to solids, this is his first taste of baby food. He loved it! Sweet Potato to be exact.
He loves his new jumper, does not stop jumping! He even fell asleep in it the other day. he is army crawling everywhere. Starting to sit on his own, still needs assistance since he likes to arch his back. talks his baby gibberish when he is angry. Smiles, his beautiful smile and has the sweetest little laugh and the best cuddles (like lily). His eyelashes are insanely long and he chews on everything with his two teeth. He makes my heart sing.

Christmas Season Begins
We are beginning to feel 'Christmassy' in the Ontiveros house.
We went to the BDO Christmas party, it was an ugly sweater party, which we definitely did not wear the ugliest sweaters. It was nice to meet some of Marks new co-workers, most are female, but they were all very nice. Jacob has been getting over the stomach flu from our trip to SLC. And he decided to vomit on the street and kitchen floor at the party, ya know, to make things interesting :). We thought he was done throwing up, otherwise we would have stayed home. Oh well.
We decided to get a real Christmas tree this year. Mainly because we don't want to take our big fake tree out of storage, and because it has been years since I've had a great smelling pine tree in the house. We found our little tree a Lowels (yeah, real Christmassy), it is about 5 ft. tall, just perfect for out little place. So much easier to put up, and decorate.
We went out of town for Thanksgiving this year, so the downside of this is no Thanksgiving leftovers to munch on! So, we decided to have our own Thanksgiving dinner. Call it, Thankristmas dinner. An inbetween the holidays meal. It was my first time cooking a turkey, and I forgot you need a roaster or roaster pan. I do not own one of these. So, I improvised an used the crockpot and then broiled it to make the skin crispy. It was a sad looking bird! lol. First time making stuffing too...it uses a lot of butter. Overall it was fun to have a fancy little meal with our little family. Possibly a new family tradition? Maybe next time i'll be prepared to cook the turkey in a roaster.
We went to the Mesa Temple lights Saturday night. It's always difficult to make plans work when you have kids. Life is just so unpredictable with little ones. I struggled with that realization during our SLC trip, at the BDO party and I again struggled with that reality last night.
Case in point: We went to a Mexican restaurant for dinner before the lights, Lily likes to play under the table (which we ask her repeatedly not to do, but what do we know...right?). She lifts her hand up from under the table to touch the surface of the table and grabbed her soup bowl instead. Soup fell from the table and onto her head. Cheesy tortilla soup all over her and the floor. And of course, lands in her eyes. she is freaking out, the whole restaurant is looking at us and I am upset with her because she does not obey us and now our night is ruined! I'm getting the stink eye from the staff cause I'm not babying her, and we go to the bathroom to get her cleaned. Have you ever tried taking melted cheese out of curly hair? IMPOSSIBLE! She is sobbing, asking for forgiveness for not listening, I tell her she is forgiven but we are now not going to see the lights as a consequence of her actions and cause she is messy, we needed to go home. On our way out of the restaurant, Mark states we are going to go the lights anyways. Despite my objections, he was not going to have our plans spoiled again. I'm glad he made that decision for our family. We got to the lights, and my foul mood was changed instantly as I saw the display of Mary and Joseph with Baby Jesus. I felt myself become happy and hopeful that these things we go through with our kids are just a life experience. These are memories that we will laugh about, but what is important is that we making them together. Thanks to the Savior. Mark asked me at dinner, 'if the you 10 yrs ago could see the you now, what do you think they'd say?', my immediate response was, 'you have the family you never thought you'd have.' That is all that matters. Who cares if my child wants to play under the table, yes it can cause risks (soup on head, big risk), but I need to not think that 'my' plans have been ruined, but that I am living the life I never thought I'd have. I love my little family so much. Throwup/soup on head and all.

SLC Thanksgiving 2015
We flew to Salt Lake City this Thanksgiving, to spend with extended family. Main reason for leaving Arizona for Thanksgiving was because Grandma O was moving to a new home in Salt Lake to be closer to her daughter and son. We are very sad that Grandma is no longer in Tucson. We hate it actually. Love her so much and miss her being so far away. Hopefully we will be able to visit twice a year, but it's just not the same. Hope the best for her and that they take care of her there. Anyways...
We had a great Thanksgiving, but it is WAY too cold in Utah! As soon as we walked out of the airport, Jacobs eyes began to water and he had a look on his face saying, 'where have you brought me too?!' We are weak Arizona people, no matter how much we bundled, we could not get warm. Don't think we will be moving up there anytime soon. Phoenix is feeling more like home everyday.
Thanksgiving we were blessed to be able to spend it with almost all of my family. We were missing Daniel, Kari-anne and the girls Avery and Joylynn. First night was spent swimming at the hotel and ice cream party in the dinning area. Love my family, they always craziness and laughter (of course bickering...we are human) but it was awesome. At one point we were running around acting like Top Chef competition, we had to get dinner ready on time. And we ran out of space in the kitchen for everything, so Liz placed the bread crumbs for the stuffing on top of the fridge, and of course the crumbs and bowl ended up on my moms head (don't worry we still had stuffing), just to give you a glimpse of the crazy.
I loved watching Lily bond with her cousins. Her and Ben are best cousins, he was so sweet with her. I even caught him warming her ears for her...what a sweetie! My nieces are so beautiful, they are becoming Women! Hard to believe. They still look like my little sweeties to me.
Jacob was passed around from cousin to aunt to uncle...at one point I lost track of where he was! Luckily, everyone else was keeping track. Dinner of course was delicious, but just having everyone there was what made Thanksgiving a time to remember.
Thanksgiving night/Black Friday, I woke up to Jacob throwing up. He had caught the stomach flu. We did not catch the culprit (though we have an idea), but I had a feeling he would catch something with being exposed to so many children. We spent half of Friday inside till Jacob showed improvement, then the rest of the day chilling with my family before they all headed out the next day.
And then...Lily caught Jacobs stomach flu! Luckily we had already taken family pictures with the Ontiveros's, Lily did not throw up till the afternoon. We had made plans to go to Temple Square with my family to look at the Christmas lights and eat at the Roof, but those plans went down the toilet once Lily caught the flu. We spent the rest of the night and next morning inside till Lily felt better. Then, guess what happened next??? Mark and I caught the stomach bug! Yay!
Fortunately Grammy was in town too and spent the afternoon with Lily playing in the snow, so she did not miss out on snow time. But I would have really enjoyed sledding with her :(. I did not get any pictures of her playing in the snow, that would have been nice too. There was a lot of Snow where aunt Michelle lives in Draper. They live on the top of a mountain, which made it even colder for us, but the view from her place was amazing. So, we got a lot of snow on Saturday/Sunday.
We left back home Sunday night, we had gotten over the bug just in time to go home. Mark and I both agree, it was an expensive trip to catch the stomach flu and we would have liked to make the most of our trip. But alas, life is unpredictable. At least, Thanksgiving was a success, we got to spend a lot of time with Family which is the most important, and the whole reason we went away for the holiday. We did not get to say goodbye to Grandma because we were sick, which makes my heart ache, but we will hopefully make another trip this summer.
Jacob is still not completely over the stomach flu. He is having a hard time keeping down formula. Holds the pedialyte, but the soy formula has to be fed little by little. He seems to be improving now though. Just a day in parenthood :)
