So, six months until my birthday. Six months until I turn 30. SIX MONTHS UNTIL I’M OLD! I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about this whole ‘turning 30 thing’. I never really considered 30 to be ‘old’. I’ve actually always looked forward to turning 30, because I always saw it as the age of being a real adult. You’re out of the gradeschool years (5-18) and out of the college years (19-29), you’re officially a grown ass adult my friend and should be proud to have made it.
The odd part is, I’m kind of freaking out as it comes closer. Because age does not stop till we are dead. The past 10 years has flown by and days seem to be shorter. My parents are grandparents and in 10 years will be in their 70’s, my brothers and sister in their 50’s and me with a teenager…yikes. IT’S ALL GOING TO FAST!!
I remember attending the single adult ward and learning that a few people who were attending the ward were in their 30’s. I thought, 'man they need to get married quickly before their baby maker routs' or they are too old and creepy to be hanging out with people in their 20’s. I can now hate all the 20 year olds who judge me because of my age (I was such punk)
So, before I become blessed with adulthood, I thought it would be a good idea to accomplish 30 goals before I turn 30. 30 things that I can say I have accomplished and always thought I’d do before I reached 30.
So here are my 30 before 30…let’s see if I can get them done (probably should have started after my 29th birthday…so I will give myself 6 more months after my 30th to accomplish.
1. Cut my hair short…like short short
I figure that this is the last time to do it while it is considered cute or edgy and not just mommy short or helmet head (like so many of our general relief society members)

2. Color hair an extreme color
To go along side my short haircut, coloring it a purple, red or blue hue would be edgy…not weird before 30.
3. Paint a picture to frame in my house
I believe myself to be creative and artistic… and I have a 75 dollar Michaels gift card that needs to be used.
4. Have a girls night with real girl friends
I did these all the time in college. Since being married I have become completely anti-social! I’d rather be at home with the hubby and child watching TV or cooking then being out with the girls discussing non-male appropriate topics. This needs to change…in honor of women hood!
5. Get in shape
Okay, so this is actually a constant never ending goal of mine since I believe I was 5…but it continues on and I would like to reach the ‘normal BMI’ weight. For me this would be 155…I’ve got about 25lbs to lose in 6 months which is do-able (as I’m writing this I am thinking about what an epic mistake it was to eat the poppy seed muffin my co-worker brought me. Oye!)
6. Host a party at home
Not a child’s birthday party, but a real party involving adults where we can play games and have fun together. Now that we have a house, this can actually be accomplished. Revert back to #4 as to why this has not been accomplished.
7. Climb something
I’d actually like to climb a rock wall…but doubt that I actually will. So I’d opt for a hike up sabino canyon.
8. Celebrate something somewhere else
I’ve decided to celebrate the big 3-0 in Las Vegas. Alone with Mark for a couple days (though it kills me to leave my princess) and party it up with him. What better place than Vegas…right?!
9. Go to something big somewhere else
It would be nice to say ‘go to the superbowl’ if I knew that it would be financially possible. But I was thinking maybe attending the final four in vegas or a sporting event in another state? I’ll ask mark for suggestions, this should get him excited.
10. 30 days of perfection
You know, the constant harpings from the doctor of ‘we recommend brushing/flossing 2x per day’ or ‘go to the gym for at least 60 min 3-4x per week’? Well I would like to collect all of the ‘recommendations’ for life and see if I can commit to them for 30 days to see if I feel any better or any worse…may be impossible…but I’m gonna do it!
11. Read the book of Mormon
This seems more like a new year’s resolution… but I’ve only read the BoM once in my twenties all the way thru and that was on my mission! Seems a little crazy for my devout mormon folk, but it is my reality.
12. Do something that benefits others
This is not just ‘participate in a charity walk so you can get a free t-shirt’ but actually help people. I’ve still got to figure out what that will be; hopefully I can figure something out by June.
13. Take a course
Take a class. A cooking class, photography class and online class…some kind of class that can teach me a new skill. And crossfit class does not count.
14. Learn to play a musical instrument
I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar. When I was a child (like most children) I thought that I would be a famous singer who played the guitar. When I think of my ideal self, I think of a guitar in my hand.
15. Read a book
not counting the BoM, I’d like to read a youthful book…like city of angels or tiggers curse.
16. Participate in at least 3 physical events
Be it a walk, a run, a swim or a crossfit competition…I need to do at least three of them.
17. Dress up in a fancy outfit and attend an event
Thinking this may be accomplished in Vegas for my birthday. I’ve always wanted to dress up in a nice dress, mark in a suit and not call it the prom.
18. Ride a Bike
Not just riding a bike around the neighborhood…but riding a real street bike so maybe someday I can ride along with my sister in the Tour de Tucson?
19. Go Rollerblading
I have not done this since I was 13…I’d like to do it again before my fragile bones can’t take it.
20. Sing in a Kareoke Bar
Maybe my brothers David and Daniel can help me to accomplish this one…they live for Karaoke.
……………………Okay the rest of these are going to be more ‘bucketlist’ ideas then things to do before I’m 30. I’m realizing I’ve commited to too much and it will be impossible to accomplish in a year……..maybe I should put ‘commitment’ on my list as well?....................
21. Join a team
A relay team, triathlon team….
22. Be on a game show
I’ve always wanted to be on the price is right or the family feud…and I will be!
23. Join a contest
Not a bathing suit contest, but maybe a cooking contest or maybe even a beauty contest? That would be awesome.
24. Attend a BIG EVENT
I’d love to go to the Superbowl someday.
25. Read all of the great Novels
The ones that I said I read in high school but never did cause I was lazy.
26. Knit and complete a scarf
its an epitome of 'start and never finish' for me... but I will finish
27. Design and sew a dress
28. Visit at least 6 countries in Europe
29. Visit chile\brazil to be with extended family
30. Dance la salsa in a Latin country
